Frequently Asked Questions
Where are sessions available?
JICTherapy provides virtual psychotherapy to adults located across Ontario.
Sessions take place through secure video appointments, allowing you to attend from a private location that works for you.
How long is each session?
Individual psychotherapy sessions are 60 minutes.
How much does therapy cost?
Individual psychotherapy is $195 CAD per 60-minute session.
The initial 15-minute consultation is free.
What happens during the free consultation?
The consultation is a brief conversation before beginning therapy.
You can share what's bringing you to therapy, ask questions about the process, and learn whether JICTherapy may be an appropriate fit for what you're looking for.
You don't have to decide during the consultation whether you want to continue.
Do I need a PTSD diagnosis to receive trauma therapy?
No.
You don't need to have a diagnosis of PTSD to seek trauma-focused psychotherapy.
People may seek therapy because of intrusive memories, anxiety, avoidance, fear, shame, relationship difficulties, changes in how they see themselves, or other effects of painful or overwhelming experiences.
Will I have to tell you everything that happened?
No.
You aren't expected to disclose every detail of a traumatic experience immediately.
Therapy is collaborative, and we can begin by understanding what's affecting you now and determine together how to approach your experiences as treatment progresses.
What approaches does JICTherapy use?
Trauma-focused psychotherapy at JICTherapy primarily draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
CBT can help address current patterns of thinking, behavior, anxiety, fear, and avoidance.
CPT focuses more specifically on beliefs that can become disrupted following traumatic experiences, including beliefs about safety, trust, control, responsibility, self-worth, and relationships.
You can learn more on the Trauma Therapy page.
Can my Christian faith be incorporated into counselling?
Yes.
JICTherapy offers Christian counselling for clients who specifically want their faith incorporated into the counselling process.
Depending on your preferences, this may include Scripture, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
Faith integration is optional. Clients who don't request it receive evidence-based psychotherapy without religious integration.
You can learn more on the Christian Counselling page.
Do you provide in-person appointments?
No. JICTherapy currently provides services virtually to clients located in Ontario.
What if I'm not sure which service I need?
You don't need to determine that before contacting JICTherapy.
The free 15-minute consultation gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what you're experiencing and determine what type of support may be most appropriate.
